How do you ensure trouble-free operation in wet and demanding environments?
A grease may be ever so strong under high loads. But what good is that if water washes it away? In demanding operating environments, it is rarely one single property that determines whether lubrication works. The grease has to stay in place, protect against wear and cope with the load, all at the same time.
With Rykon MP 2, we now have a grease in our range that has been developed for exactly these conditions.
When machines face several stresses at once
A working day can bring a bit of everything for construction machinery, agricultural machinery and machines in the maritime industry, for example. Water and moisture one moment. High loads, vibration and dirt the next, or all of it at once.
And that takes its toll on lubrication. If the grease is washed away, you may have to lubricate more often, while the bearings risk being less well protected. Conversely, water resistance is not worth much if the grease does not protect properly against wear when the load increases.
That is why choosing a grease is not always about one strong property, but about how the properties work together under the conditions your machines actually operate in.
What should you look for in your grease?
In wet and heavily loaded environments, there are three things in particular your grease needs to do. It must stay in place, protect against wear and corrosion, and cope with the load. And these are precisely the properties that characterise Rykon MP 2.
Compared with similar greases, tests show that Rykon MP 2 is 35% better at resisting water washout. In a dynamic water test at 79 °C, the loss was also measured at less than 5% (ISO 11009), while a salt water test shows a result of 0-0 for corrosion protection (ISO 11007).
But it is not enough for the grease to stay in place. It also has to protect when the machine is working hard. Here, tests show 37.5% better protection under high loads and 20% better wear protection compared with similar greases.
And when the load gets really high? In a standardised Four Ball test, Rykon MP 2 achieves a Weld Load of 6,500 daN (DIN 51350), more than twice as high as similar greases.
So what is interesting is not one single test result. It is the combination. Rykon MP 2 has been developed to stay in place in wet environments, protect against wear and cope with high loads. This provides a better basis for stable lubrication when your machines are working under demanding conditions.
New grease, proven technology
Rykon MP 2 is new in our range. The technology behind it is not. Calcium sulfonate complex has been used and tested for many years, and for good reason.
In this type of grease, the thickener does more than give the grease the right consistency. It also contributes to protection against high pressure and wear, known as EP and AW properties, and is at the same time resistant to water and corrosion.
This helps give Rykon MP 2 the properties that make it a relevant choice for wet and heavily loaded environments.
The right grease still depends on your operation
Even a grease with good test results is not necessarily the right choice for every machine. It depends on the equipment, the load and the environment the machine operates in.
Rykon MP 2 is particularly suitable for plain and rolling bearings under high loads, where water, moisture or corrosion is also a challenge. This could be in the maritime industry, agriculture or the construction industry, for example.
The grease can also be used in automatic centralised lubrication systems. It is pumpable at low temperatures and can be used at operating temperatures from -30 °C to +140 °C, and for short periods up to +180 °C.
If you recognise these conditions from your own operation, it may be worth taking a closer look at whether your current grease is right for the job.
Is Rykon MP 2 right for your machines?
That depends on both the equipment and the conditions it operates under. If you are experiencing problems with water washout, frequent relubrication or high loads, we are happy to help you assess whether Rykon MP 2 is the right choice.
